Smartphones have learned to understand human language — now they are coming for your pets. Silicon Valley company Traini has partnered with global device maker TECNO to build its pet emotion translation AI directly into smartphones.

The technology uses the phone’s microphone, camera and AI processing to analyse a pet’s sounds, facial expressions, posture and behaviour, then explains in plain language whether the animal may be excited, anxious, alert, lonely or seeking attention.

The companies say the move turns pet emotion translation from a standalone app into a native phone feature, opening a new use case for smartphone AI that goes beyond productivity and photography.

“From smartphones that understand people to smartphones that understand pets” is how the partners describe the shift. Generative AI is rapidly redefining what phones can do, and companion animals — for many owners, family members — are the next frontier.

Traini, which describes itself as a pet emotional intelligence company, announced the partnership on October 2, saying the integration will roll out through TECNO’s native mobile experience.
