ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 2.10 per litre, taking it to Rs 392.76 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has gone up by 30 paisa to Rs 399.64 per litre.

The revised prices add to the burden on consumers already dealing with elevated living costs. Weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index, surged 11.53 percent year-on-year in the latest reading, reflecting pressure on household budgets from food and fuel costs.

Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed in line with international oil market movements and the exchange rate. Higher global crude prices — driven in part by geopolitical tensions and supply concerns — have kept domestic fuel rates elevated in recent reviews.

Analysts say sustained high energy prices feed into transport fares and the cost of goods across the economy, making it harder to bring inflation down in the coming months.
