PESHAWAR: Dengue cases have begun rising sharply across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the change in weather, and district Kohat has been declared a high-risk area after the number of cases there climbed to 1,347.
According to a Health Department report, 878 dengue cases were reported in Kohat alone during September. Across the province, 8,905 dengue-affected cases have been reported so far this year, of which 2,175 have been laboratory-confirmed.
Nearly 100 new cases surfaced in the province in the past 24 hours, while the number of active cases stands at 112. September saw the highest monthly count of the year, with Kohat topping the list.
Elsewhere, Peshawar recorded 116 cases in September, taking its total to 329; Khyber district’s total reached 101 and Bannu’s 106. Health authorities confirmed that no dengue-related deaths have been reported in the province so far this year.
Officials have urged residents to eliminate standing water around homes — the breeding ground for the mosquitoes that spread dengue — and to seek timely testing if fever develops.
